Sherry's Cancer Blog

I'm back!

Sorry I’ve been gone for so long but so much has happened in the last 6 months. I had a right upper lung lobectomy in January and recovered from that very quickly.
In June right before I was going on a Bucket List trip to California with two of my bestest friends I found out the cancer had spread to my liver. My Oncologists stated that I had “multiple” tumors on my liver.
They decided to leave it up to me whether or not I wanted to have chemo because I was now classified as having Stage 4B cervical cancer they said my prognosis was not good.
I am a fighter and I have three girls, a husband and a wonderful family who needs me and I will NEVER give up or give into cancer!
I decided to have chemo again and started treatments in August. I have it every 28 days and other than the first month being a nightmare, I have gone through treatments quite well with little side effects.
I had a CT scan in October after two treatments and the chemo is working! One of the tumors on my liver was 6.7 cm had shrunk down to 3.5 cm and others had either shrunk or disappeared completely!
So I am glad that I choose the chemo as I am feeling much better than I did when my liver was swollen with tumors!
They also discovered when they did the scan that I had developed a blood clot in my left lower lung! So now I have to give myself a needle in the stomach daily to prevent further clots from happening.
I am grateful for life and looking forward to my oldest daughter coming home for Christmas from University, Christmas and Maui in January!
I’ve missed you all and have been trying to keep up with everyone’s journals.
I will be on here more since I feel better sharing my sucesses with all of you!
Love and Hugs,
Sherry

Melinda, Anne like this.
Melinda, Dana threw a punch at your cancer.
Susie sent you a prayer.

what a battle you have fought in the last six months! I am glad you were strong. Hopefully your decision to take chemo again will buy you another 20 or more years with your family.
I have a friend (at the art store) who had stage 4 cervical cancer- they treated it and it took 20 years before it surfaced again – and of course she went through treatment again and is doing well!
I always find it encouraging to all of us to know that we can beat it, no matter what they think “the odds” are.
thanks for the encouragement. What symptoms did you have that it was back in your liver?
what a blessing they found the blood clot – usually they will travel and stop your breathing or your heart – both of which are deadly – so what a blessing that they discovered it on your scan!
so glad to hear from you again. btw – we want to hear from you even when the roller coaster goes down the hill. You’re not alone on that roller coaster

Sherry—
Your update is wonderful news and so good to hear! You are quite inspirational with your attitude and refusal to let cancer win. May those tumors just keep shrinking down to nothing! Please keep us posted and take care. Happy Thanksgiving!

Martha

Sherry,

I am so happy that you have posted. That is great news that your tumors are shrinking or gone from your liver. I am sorry that you have to give yourself shots to prevent blood clots but it is all worth it to kick the beasts a**. Please keep us updated and I wish you the best. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers always.

hugs
Nancy

Wow, what a journey you have had and what an inspiration you are to us all. I love your positive attitude. Never under estimate the power of prayer and our guardian angels.

I am so glad that you are doing better. I just found out yesterday that I have one positive lymph node after finishing treatment a month ago for cervical and ovarian cancer. Now they’re trying to figure out how to get a biopsy of it so we know how to treat it. Docs are leaning toward cervical cancer metastis, but we need the sample to be sure. I am really feeling down about this, but will bounce back like I always do…

Sherry, how did I miss this post? I am so sorry! I love that you made the decision to continue treatment. You are indeed a fighter, and an inspiration to us all. I am so happy to have “met” you!
GORGEOUS wedding pics, lovely lady.

happy almost birthday : )

Happy Birthday!

Sherry how have you been doing>? I am new to site but have been battling disease since MArch/April. Stage 3B surgery not an option. However when I went to get FIRST ct scan post treatments I was told around my pelvic groin area was still enlarged nodes. She wasnt exactly sure from treatment or cancer, she suggested I go see my oncologist for his opinion if he wants ( or even can ) biopsy them. Than more chemo and rad booster. Im completely freaked. However i am also changing diet. Have actually kale, Carrots, no more red meat, or meat really….soy stuff like that. I am happy to see your a survivor! I have 10 yr old and am single ma..( Iv made arrangments for him) I do not intend to just give up..but I need some posistive here..ea appointment a downer

Hi Sherry. Can you tell me did you get second opinion about node removal?

God Bless You Sherry!

Update

I received the pathology results from the lung tumor they removed and unfortunately the news wasn’t good. The cells were from my primary cancer in my cervix (squamous cell carcinoma). So basically my oncologist said that my cancer is not curable. Right now I am in remission as I have no active cancer in my body but my oncologist said cancer will return, we just don’t know where or when.

The news was very disheartening but I fought it twice and came out ok, so I’m getting my body prepared to fight it again. I’m taking many supplements (green tea extract, essiac capsules, immunocare, probiotic vitamins, vitamin D etc. etc.) and I’m also changing my diet which will consist of fish, organic red meats, fresh fruit and vegetables. I am also using a Hot House and Chi Machine 3 times a week and start yoga in a couple of weeks.
I will do whatever I have to, to fight this and win. I’m also looking into clinical trials to see what may be available for me when the cancer comes back.

Three weeks after my surgery my husband booked us a trip to Punta Cana and we went and had a very relaxing and healing vacation. I did nothing but lay in the sun and walk the miles of beautiful beaches. I also went back to work 4 weeks after surgery which was good as it kept me busy and my mind off of things. I hope to get scanned every 3 months just to be proactive with catching the cancer at an early stage….I just have to get my oncologist to agree.

I hope all is well with all of you… my cancer family.

Take care,
Sherry

Tami sent you a prayer.

It is good to get an update. Sorry about the pathology results. But now you are in remission. What I’ve never understood is how the doctors can be so certain in every case that the cancer will return. Unless they have a magic crystal ball, I honestly don’t believe them. You are in remission with no active cancer, keep doing what you are doing to stay healthy and strong. Just because the doctor said that does not mean it will for certain happen. Stay strong and keep up the fight! :)

Did the doctor mention any type of preventative chemo after the surgery?

Sherry,
Your onc does a poor imitation of a good news/bad news joke. Good news: you don’t have cancer [today]. Bad news: you will. These docs need some new material.
I am so pleased for you and your husband that you got a relaxing time away. And for you to go back to work only a month after lung surgery is impressive.
The path report sucks for sure. You are doing everything humanely possible to keep the evil disease at bay.
May you go from strength to strength.
Andrea

As julie was saying, the most important fact is that you are in remission today. Doctors can be so pessimistic sometimes, how do they know cancer will come back for sure? I love your fighting and pro-active spirits. Yes, definitely go for a scan every 3 months.

Yuyu

Sherry—
I’m sorry the path report wasn’t the good news you had hoped for, but I love your fighting spirit and determination to keep fighting and win! That was so nice of your husband to plan a nice vacation for the two of you and I’m glad you had a great time. Stay strong and know that so many of us here are supporting you and we’re here for you whenever you need us. Take care.

Martha

It’s just unbelievable that they didn’t do a PET scan of your whole body from the beginning. I have to wonder if they would have noticed something in your lungs at that time and taken measures to treat it. Thank God you are in remission and I do believe there is power in prayer, and everyone will be praying that you stay in remission to enjoy and take care of your beautiful family. sometimes we make the mistake of being too nice. Demand new scans every three months. Ask nicely and if that doesnt work – get a little pushy. If you can’t be pushy, take someone with you to your appointments whose second nature is to be pushy. You are deserve peace of mind, and you deserve to know at the earliest opportunity. Let us know if you find any preventative clinicals that might help you keep it in remission.

I’m so sorry that the pathology found cancer cells but like so many here have said,,,you ARE in remission! You are doing everything to keep this sucky thing a bay and I will be hoping and praying that your remission is a very long one,,,like forever.

Keep strong.
Teresa

I am so sorry for the pathology report but I will tell you this I think that cancer had better think twice about reinvading your body. you sound like such a fighter and I think you are ready to kick some A**,Keep up the srong fighing spirit, who knows it may come back but maybe not for 20 years as long as you are fighting you have a chance. A big hug and a pat on the back now get out and keep fighting. You go Girl!

Pat

Hey Sherry,

Your pathology report is crappy news, to be sure, but you are such a fighter and you know you can beat this.

While it’s true your cancer may come back, right now, you’re clear. This is the time to get that body healthy and in fighting trim. Your proactive attitude can go a long way in keeping your cancer away.

I think the clinical trials are also a great idea.

You have a great plan and an even better mindset.

My thoughts for healing will be with you.

Jill

hi, sherry. so glad you had a nice trip on the beach with your hubby. sounds wonderful! the pathology thing really sucks pond water… but i think you are a strong young lady who can beat cancer if need be. you have already proven that twice. just live your life… enjoy your life… and try to put cancer on the back burner as much as possible. easier said than done, i know. here’s hoping you never have to fight it again. God bless you. debby
